Places off Tung Lung Street 2

If I wanted to go east of Tung Lung Street , I could either pass Hennessy Road , or went through a passageway 巷仔 at the south-east corner of Tung Lung Street . This Y shape passageway linked with Percival Street at one end, and linked Russel Street (now is Time Square) at the south end. A passageway was not only a passageway, but was a busy market. Tinny shops and stalls were set up against the outside walls of buildings. There were shops doing hair cutting, watch, shoe repairs, key cutting, some were selling small items, cheap garments, etc.

The high light of Percival Street was the Lee Theatre . A lot of big events were held there, such as big TVB programmes, popular Cantonese opera and the like. Apart from the regular film shows, on Sundays, there were always cheap cartoon shows, which were 10:30 early morning shows 早場. I always asked my father for 20 cents, to get a ticket for that. When we were waiting for the show start, they always played classic music, such as ‘好心大姑啦俾個錢’. I learnt a lot of classic music from there.

Percival Street was also a main link way to the Honk Kong Stadium, where major football events were held there. I saw some football fans riots happen there.

There was also a main link way to the race course. On Saturday afternoons crowd of horse racing fans walked through Percival Street to the race course.

A lot of parades also passed through Percival Street heading to the Stadium or the Race Course, whenever big events were held there.

When I was about 10, my family moved to Percival Street .

I still can remember how we moved from Tung Lung Street to Percival Street .

Cya.
