Places off Tung Lung Street
Hennesey Road is on the north of Tung Lung Street and is parallel to it. This is the main stream of the island. There are trams running along the road. The famous Wanchai fire station is still standing there. I can remember that I saw firemen play volley ball every time I walked pass the backdoor of the fire station. Next to it was the very very famous Wanchai public toilets, 灣仔大公廁. In those days, the care taker of the toilets and his family were living in the flat just next to the toilets. At the door of his ‘home’, he would put a small table. What was on the table? Toilet tissue, 玉蔻紙. If people in a rush, they just put down 10 cents, and grab a set of toilet paper, then they could go in an did whatever they need to do. Until now I still can remember the setting inside the toilets. I’d like to talk about it more detail later.
Next to this smelly thing, on the west was the Dai Sam Yuen restaurant, 大三元酒樓.
now, we go northward. There was 洛克道, 謝菲道, then 高士打道, and that was the coast line. Wanchai ferry pier was right there. Many rickshaws were there waiting for business.
